Welcome to Around the Birth Services!
Dawn Bouchard, CD(DONA)
Hi, I am Dawn. I am a DONA trained and certified birth doula who attends births around the Puget Sound. I became interested in birth after having the privilege of attending the birth of my first grandbaby, a girl, who was born in 2005. Shortly after her birth my twin grandson were born by emergency c-section, and thus begins the story of my passion for being a doula and educating parents.
I am the proud wife of a retired Coast Guardsman and spent 12 years in the Coast Guard myself. One of the main advantages to this for potential clients is that I have my own military ID card and access to JBLM for births at Madigan. Since I live in Roy I also have easy access to post.
I am the mother of two children, both born completely naturally.
My daughter and daughter-in-law each had very different births than mine. My daughter was facing a C-section for a baby that would not drop onto a cervix that was tilted and off to the side. After having an epidural and being allowed to “labor down” she was able to deliver vaginally. My daughter-in-law was facing the loss of both twins many weeks early and was rushed off for an emergency c-section many miles from home where one nightmare led to another. Her and my son were treated like non people because of their age and were never consulted with about the health of their babies. Fortunately, six years later all three of them are strong and healthy kids. This mistreatment is what made me realize there has to be a better way to treat patients and their parents. The most logical course for me seemed to be that of a doula. I had the wonderful privilege of being asked to attend the birth of my latest grandson in November 2010, a successful, natural VBAC. He was born to a woman who stood up for herself and had her birth her way. She had her do-over after her emergency c-section and I am so very proud of her.
I have attended many births since I had my training; some went right along the path laid out in the birth plan, some made some deviations, but each and every one of them saw a woman come away stronger for making the choices that were best for her and her baby.
I am a strong advocate for a women and families being allowed to make the choices that are best for them in an environment that is filled with love and calm. I firmly believe that all women are strong and childbirth tests that strength and lets them come out the other side stronger than they ever thought they could be.
Kloshie Chee Mamook-Beautiful Beginnings. I wish for each of you a beautiful beginning in your life as a new parent.

Tiffani Hoffman, CD(DONA)
Hi. My name is Tiffani. I believe that our families are more precious than gold and one of our greatest resources and treasures. I believe that when mothers feel empowered by their birth experience they can empower their families, their communities, the future leaders of our country. I would love the resource and guide to help you through your own journey of empowerment by helping you achieve the birth your desire through the philosophy “freedom to make decisions base on knowledge of alternatives in family-centered maternity and newborn care.”
I am a recent graduate from Bates Technical College Childbirth Educator Program and in the process of meeting the requirements for certification through ICEA.org. I am also a midwife’s assistant at The Birthing Inn in Tacoma as well as a birth doula. Being the mother of eight wonderful children has given me the opportunity to have many different birthing experiences. After a traumatic birth experience I decided there had to be a better way and began my journey to become a certified birth doula through DONA.org.
I love working with people. I believe we can be inspired and through education make well informed decisions based on information and careful consideration.

Michelle Rickard, CD(DONA)
Hi my name is Michelle Rickard and I am a professional birth doula serving the Southern Puget Sound.
You might ask yourself what is a Doula?
A Doula is professional labor support coach that helps expected couple before, during and after labor.
I've been a certified birth Doula with DONA International for 4 years and it's my passion besides my family and friends.
I get the opportunity to work with doctor, nurses, midwives and couples and singles from all over the Country.
I've been served Ethiopian coffee, picked up family at SeaTac airport and recently help deliver a baby on Christmas... Never a dull moment in this business...
I've learned that no matter what your plans, or the kind of birth you want, any expecting couple can benefit from the support of a Doula. This could be for your 1st birth or your10th!
Whether you decide to birth at the hospital, a birth center or homebirth, I'll be there to lend a helping hand to you.
